In case of window 7 sometimes when you are listening your favorite songs in window media player although everything is going good but when you decide to install iTunes after installation you see that your icons have got different look and they are opening with iTunes instead of WMP. In that situation while you were installing iTunes you may not have noticed that it installed itself as a default player for all audio files. This problem may occur on all different programs and files .By using this feature of windows 7 and Vista “set Default Programs in Windows 7 and Vista” you can get control over applications that are associated with each file type.

By simply click o on start and then on Default Programs, you can get access on Set Default Programs.

Now you will have to click on set your Default Programs.

If you want to it set up for the Default program to open all of the file types, you will have to go through all each program and make sure that either it is capable of opening that files.

Another option is that you can choose files that you want to associate with each program. As an example you can see in the following screenshot Foobar2000 is selected as the default program for certain types of audio files. While VLC and WMP are used to open others.

You can also associate file types with different programs like you can see below that in screenshot VLC is opening WMP files and we want to change it in window media players. We can do it by highlighting the file type and then we will click the Change Program button or by simply double clicking on it.

From the recommended list select a program or in case if it is not listed you can browse other program to the location of a specific app.  The selected programs that are used to open this kind of file are always checked and grayed out because to open with screen we are going through to set the Default programs. Window assumes that the changes are permanent because of the way that use to get it here and grays it out.

In that case if you right click on a file and select open with from the context menu.

The box is not grayed out and you will have to decide either you always want to open that type of program or not.

Change Autoplay Settings:

You can also change Autoplay settings in set Default program when you insert media or Devices like a flash Drive.  For instance you can set DVDS to always open in Media Player and Music CD’s to ask you every time. You can also remove this setting by UnChecking Use Auto Play for all media and devices.

If you have to set it to ask when you put in says a DVD. Auto plays opens and you can choose what to open with it. To access all of the above settings you can click view more AutoPlay options from the control panel.
